Owner surrender reason: too mouthy with kid and destructive
Play Group Notes: (08/27/25)
He walked to the play yard with a moderate pull on the leash. He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He became barrier reactive toward the dogs through the fence, barking at them. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He approached a female shepherd and exchange a soft greeting with her. He then offered her a play bow and they engaged in gentle/dainty play. After their play, he approached another female shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting with her. He then attempted to entice her into play, but she declined the invitations. He began to roam the yard and then approached a male Pitbull. He immediately became tense, with a forward body posture, high tail, wide eyes and licking his lips. He remained in this tense and challenging posture, staring down the male Pitbull. As handlers were about to break their focus, Xander growled and lunged toward the male Pitbull. Handlers were able to grab their leashes, and The Male Pitbull was removed from the yard at this time. Xander was allowed to remain in the yard, to see if it was just a personal conflict with that one dog. The male Pitbull was taken back to his kennel and another male dog was brought to the yard. During the time the runner was doing this, Xander remained playful and social with the two female dogs in the yard. He would approach the handlers and seek affection. He also climbed into the pool and enjoyed some time in there. When the new male dog entered the yard, Xander approached him and sniffed his body. The male Pitbull appeared wary of him and attempted to walk away. Xander continued to tensely trail him and remained focused on him, wherever he went in the yard. He then tried to mount the other male. A handler broke his focus using the sound of a shaker can and Xander was then removed from the yard at this time. Due to his challenging behavior toward male dogs and remaining social with female dogs, he will be designated as playful female dogs required.
