Eval Comments: The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
She was sitting in the rear comer of the kennel while avoiding eye contact with a tucked tail. She would not approach the gate despite coaxing. The handler stepped in and kneeled next to her. She relaxed slightly as the handler rubbed her back.
She then tumed towards the handler, licking and sniffing his hand. She was easily leashed She was resistant to walk on leash and pulled back. The handler easily picked her up and camed her to a viewing area. Once inside, she retreated the fence and sat down. She was tense but allowed the handler to look into her ears, view her teeth, hold each of her paws and tail without any negative behavior observed. She was camed back to the kennel easily at this time. She needs continued socialization.
