ASSESSMENT
DOWNEY

?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Diablo A5718992 sniffed the runner with a slightly tense demeanor, his eyes were alert, his ears were alert and his mouth
was closed. He ran to the back of the kennel as soon as he noticed the leash. The runner coaxed him, he slowly
re-approached him, he sniffed him, the runner was able to remove him from the kennel, he was nervous of the environmental
surroundings and only stopped to sniff a puppy as he made his way through the kennels . In the catch pen when he was
introduced to the dogs his body was slightly tense, his pupils were slightly dilated, his ears were alert, and his mouth was
closed. He was easy to collar and leash. He entered the yard and ignored the dogs. He roamed the yard quietly at first then
began to hover and sniff the dogs. When a muzzled dog entered the yard, he hovered around him, his body was tense and his
pupils were dilated. He walked away when the handler corrected him using the spray bottle. He attempted to mount one of
the dogs but stopped when the handler used the spray bottle to get him off of the dog . Overall, Diablo was selective of the
dogs and does not have a playstyle at his time.

Diablo A5718992 was moved to the side yard to proceed with his handling assessment. He ran away from the handler
anytime she walked over to him, his body was tense, he side eyed, his mouth was closed and his ears were alert. The handler
used the leash to move him closer to her. She used the assessment hand to pet him (due to him being tense). His body was
tense as she pet his head, he filched, he side eyed her the entire time. He growled when she grabbed his back leg, the handler
coaxed him and reached down to grab his leg again, he sat down, side eyed her and growled. The handler at this point did
not want to continue overwhelming him. Due to bite history Diablo will be rescue only with an indemnification waiver and
agreement.
