Description
9/23/25 Handling:
This dog displayed the same defensive behavior as in his previous assessment. He was able to be removed from the kennel, but he remained defensive when trying to be touched or collared. He would back up and defensively bark. When getting closer to him, he would defensively snap and try to bite. Due to his continued defensive behavior, he will remain as rescue only at this time.
9/16/25 Handling:
?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
He walked to the play yard with a moderate pull ahead on the leash, creating space from the handler. He entered the catch pen with concerned eyes and a tucked tail. He allowed the handler to touch his head, but he had whale eyes and licked his lips. He began to create space from the handler and had concerned eyes. Due to his wary behavior, the handler rope muzzled him as precaution. After rope muzzling him, when the handler tried to collar him or pet him, he would growl and try to bite. He then backed himself into the corner and froze, growling. The assessment was ended at this point to prevent any further stress to him and for safety to the handler. He was returned to his kennel. Due to his handling sensitivity and fear biting behavior, he will be designated as recue only at this time. He will be re-visited next week to see if he has decompressed or improved.
