?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Toffee was at the front of the kennel with a neutral body, soft eyes, and a soft tail wag. He was easy to leash and remove
from the kennel, pulled strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. In the catch pen, his
body was neutral, his eyes were neutral, and his tail was neutral. Due to his reported history in the home, he was muzzled
prior to entering the yard for the safety of the other dogs. He entered the yard, and did not greet the other dogs. He was
tolerant of being mounted. He tried to remove the muzzle several times, making himself a target for the other dogs. He was
moved to the side yard with one female dog, and the muzzle was removed. He roamed the yard with a neutral body,
exchanging appropriate greetings with the other dog. He laid by the pool with a relaxed body, soft eyes, and an open pant.
After several minutes, he engaged in a minor altercation with the other dog. The cause of the altercation is unknow, but
neither dog was injured. The handler offered a firm verbal correction from the other yard, and both dogs moved away from
each other. They continued to coexist for several moments before engaging in another minor altercation, which was started
by the other dog. The handler offered another verbal correction, stopping the altercation. However, Toffee pinned the other
dog, and stood over her until the handler entered the yard. Toffee approached the handler with a neutral body, allowing the
other dog to get up and move away. Toffee was removed from the yard, and returned to his kennel with no issues. Toffee is
selective of the other dogs, has a medium energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
