The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.

He displayed barrier reactivity in the catch pen, growling and posturing at a male shepherd. He walked into the yard on a long, loose leash. He exchanged a good, calm greeting with a female shepherd who came up slowly. She playfully pawed at him, trying to entice play, but he declined her invitation. He was then approached by a male shepherd. Park was tense initially but then appeared to relax slightly as they sniffed each other. Park then walked back up to the female shepherd. He tapped his feet and play bowed. The shepherd responded by play bowing but full play did not erupt. A male shepherd became playful and ran around the yard. Park became aroused and focused on the shepherd. Park ran up to him, jumping on his back and focusing on his neck. The handlers were able to break his focus using their tools. As the shepherd resumed playing, Park became aroused and chased after the shepherd, jumping on his back with whale eyes and growling. The handlers had to step in and use their tools to separate him. Park did not display this arousal behavior with the female shepherd who came up and enticed him for chase play. He did not focus on her or become aroused as she ran away playfully. Another male shepherd was introduced into the yard. As the shepherd became playful, Park focused on him and began to chase after him while growling. A handler was able to step on his leash and prevent him from reaching the shepherd. He was removed from the yard at this time. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, FEMALE DOGS (REQ), MEDIUM ENERGY
