10/01/25 Playgroup:
?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
He walked with a hard pull in all directions on the leash creating space away from the runner on the way to the catch pen. The handler slowly approached him to place the collar around his neck. He spent a few minutes building his trust before clasping his collar on. He entered the play yard timidly with his tail tucked and his ears back. He was approached by a male lab mix and exchanged timid greetings with him. He was approached by a female shepherd and exchanged timid greetings with her. He would not approach any handlers in the yard. He roamed the yard with the other dogs. He was tolerant of dogs coming up to sniff him. Due to previous incidents outside of the care center, he will be made rescue only. RESCUE ONLY WITH KNOWN HISTORY OF AGGRESSION DISCLOSURE AND BITE DISCLOSURE
11/08/23 Handling:
He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. He was given a moment to acclimate to his surroundings. The handler knelt down and called to him, but he would not approach. The handler slowly approached him. He had a relaxed body, soft eyes and low tail. As the handler started the handling he switched to concerned eyes. He allowed the handler to pet the back of his neck and down the full length of his back with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. When the handler tried to check his teeth, he turned his head away. When the handler tried to touch his tail, he tucked it under his body. When the handler touched his back paws, he pulled them away. He allowed the handler to touch his front paws, but had concerned eyes. He is wary of fast movements and needs a go slow approach. He was returned to his kennel without issue.
11/08/23 Playgroup:
The runner sectioned him off to one side of the kennel by closing the dividing hatch. When the runner re-approached, he was standing at the back of the kennel. He had concerned eyes, tucked tail and light body tremble. The runner knelt down at the kennel gate and began to verbally coax him. He refused to approach and began to avoid eye contact, while licking his lips. When the runner opened the kennel gate, he began to back himself into the corner. The runner entered the kennel and presented the loop leash. He was easy to loop leash inside the kennel, as he froze in place. He required verbal coaxing to exit the kennel and walked to the play yard with a hard pull. He entered the catch pen with soft eyes, relaxed body and low tail. He was avoidant of the play yard fence and did not greet the other dogs. He was head shy during being collared by the runner and required a go slow approach. He entered the play yard with concerned eyes and low tail. He was approached by a female Pitbull. He was tolerant of her sniffing him, but did not return the greeting. He was then approached by a male Pitbull. He again was tolerant of him sniffing him, but did not return the greeting. After this, he began to roam the yard and explore his surroundings. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. He then began to pace the perimeter fence line, seeking an exit. After a short time, he appeared to relax a little and stopped pacing the fence. He remained calm and tolerant with the other dogs for the rest of his time in the yard. He was wary of the handlers in the yard and would not approach them. Oliver is tolerant of the other dogs and has no play style at this time. Due to incidents in the previous home, he will be designated as available for public adoption, with disclosure of known behavior.
