Eval Comments:
The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, traming, medical, socialization, and life expenences.
He was tense with a tucked tail while licking his lips as other dogs came up to greet him at the fence. He was wary of the collar and sat down with a tucked tail as it was clasped around his neck. He was hesitant entering the yard, requiring lots of coaxing. He growled while exposing his teeth to a male shepherd who came up to him calmly. He sat down near the gate and would not move as he scanned the yard, watching the other dogs. As a female shepherd came within two feet of him, he growled with hackles raised and wide eyes. She respected the waming and backed away. He continued to wam every dog that came up to greet him. He was initially wary of the handler, stretching his body to sniff them but began to relax as time passed and approach them for affection. He eventually stood up and roamed the perimeter of the yard slowly. He growled and appropriately wamed a male shepherd for trailing behind him. He then walked over to the handler and sat down next to him, leaning against his leg for affection. He was not comfortable around the other dogs and did not tolerate any approaching him. He is currently kenneled with a dog he knows and was surrendered with and has not had any noted issue in kennel. He needs socialization and trust building. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REC), NO DOGS (REC), LOW ENERGY

He approached the handler with soft eyes and an open mouth pant, seeking affection. The handler rubbed his head while looking in his ears, viewed his teeth, held his tail and front paws without any negative reaction. He was not comfortable with his rear paws being held and simply pulled them away slowly. He resumed soliciting affection as the assessment was concluded and retumed to his kennel without issue. He needs a bnef trust building penod but is affection and fnendly after.
