?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Lucian was at the front of the kennel with a wiggly body, soft eyes, and a neutral tail with a fast wag. He barked excitedly,
and sniffed and licked the runner?s hand. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, and pulled strongly on leash. He
greeted his neighbors, and only became barrier reactive with other barrier reactive dogs. The runner was able to move him
away from the other kennels, and he continued to pull strongly on leash. He was easy to collar. In the catch pen, his body
was relaxed and wiggly, but he quickly became frustrated. He began biting the fence, and was able to pull the gate open
before the handlers could stop him. He charged into the yard, and rushed the other dogs with a tense body. He greeted the
dogs in a very pushy manner, and required a lot of steering and corrections from the handlers and the other dogs. He
responded well to the other dogs? corrections, and was able to settle down. He remained energetic, but was able to play
appropriately with the other dogs. He will benefit greatly from continued socialization, obedience training, and some
behavior modification. Lucian is tolerant of the other dogs, has a high energy level, and prefers a rough/rowdy playstyle.
