Hilda came in as a stray from the field. No owner ever came forward.
The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.

She had soft eyes and a loose body as the runner easily clasped the collar around her neck. She entered the yard and was immediately social with the other dogs, exchanging good greetings with all. She approached a timid female pit bull puppy and lingered in her face while greeting her. The pit bull lip curled and lightly growled in Hilda's face. Hilda respected the warning and backed away. She then approached a female Doberman and tried enticing play. Hilda play bowed and then placed her paws on the back of the Doberman. The Doberman growled and air snapped, not comfortable with her play attempt. Hilda respected the warning once again and backed away. She then approached a handler with a wiggly body and lightly jumped on his side to solicit affection. She will need basic manners training. She spent the next few minutes roaming the yard with a group of dogs, continuing to exchange good greetings. She then enticed a female retriever puppy for play. The two spent several minutes chasing around the yard and lightly wrestling. Hilda displayed a rough/rowdy play style with lots of physical contact. She then played with a male pit bull who wasn't comfortable with her play style and stopped soon after. She then returned to the female retriever. The two resumed chasing around the yard As Hilda's play progressed, she became more physical and began nipping and grabbing the retriever's scruff. The retriever growled and snapped at Hilda to which Hilda returned a growl and air snap. The handlers stepped in and easily separated the two using tools. Hilda remained social and playful for the rest of her time in the yard. She has a very physical and rough play style, mouthing and using her body while playing. Not all dogs may appreciate her intense play style. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, LARGE DOGS OK, HIGH ENERGY
