The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.

He walked warily behind the runner, requiring light coaxing to continue. He was especially wary of doorways, requiring lots of coaxing to walk through. He pancaked inside the pen, wary of the runner as she approached with the collar. It was clasped around his neck without issue. Once it was on, he slowly scooted away, trying to create space. He was hesitant entering the yard with a low body. Once in, he timidly greeted other dogs and was not comfortable with them lingering near his face. He simply turned his head away to avoid them. He appears insecure and under socialized. He spent the next few minutes calmly roaming the perimeter as he acclimated to the area. He began to relax with the other dogs, exchanging better greetings, tolerating face lingering. He was very wary of the handlers and would change direction while licking his lips if they approached him. He eventually approached the second handler, sniffing his hand and leg before scooting away as the handler tried to touch his head. He appeared to be interested in play with the other dogs. He became interested as a group of three dogs were chasing around the yard. He would chase after them without fully committing and stop before reaching them. He repeated this behavior several times but never fully joined them in play. He eventually approached the other handler, allowing his head to be rubbed but was not fully comfortable. He needs continued socialization and trust building. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REC), CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
