Play Group Notes:
She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She approached a female shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting with her. She then approached a male shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting with him. She began to calmly roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She continued to calmly roam the yard and exchange soft greetings with other dogs, but she appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs. She was approached by a male husky in a faster manner. She became wary of the faster movement and ran away to create space from him. She remained calm and social for the rest of her time in the yard. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. Stella is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog.
Reassessment:
Stella focused on a female shepherd in the catch pen today. The female shepherd entered the yard and went to the far perimeter fence. Stella charged across the yard, tracking the female shepherd. The female shepherd laid down by the fence, displaying passive appeasement behavior. Stella hovered over her with a high stiff tail, hackles raised and forward body posture. The female shepherd remained laying down and displaying passive appeasement behavior. Stella took a step back and began to lip curl and bark at her. When the female shepherd stood up to move, Stella lunged at her and began attacking her. The female shepherd ran away, but Stella pursued her and began attacking her again. The female shepherd pressed her body against the fence and began to defensively snap back, defending herself. Spray bottles and shaker cans were not affective in breaking Stella?s focus. A handler grabbed Stella from the back hips and pulled her away. The female shepherd then ran away to create space. Stella attempted to follow her a couple of times, but handlers were able to cut off her advances. A handler was able to gain control of Stella?s collar, and she was led away to the catch pen. She as returned to her kennel without issue. She appeared to target the female shepherd as a ?kick me sign? dog. Due to her unprovoked attack and dog selective behavior, she would likely do best as an only dog in the home.
