Chikito is a gentle little guy looking for a fresh start. 🐶💛 He came to the shelter after his previous owner had too many animals to care for. When Chikito arrived, he was relaxed, wiggly, and happily approached staff for attention. He was also friendly and easy to handle when he came in for his neuter appointment. Chikito has a low energy level and currently prefers calm environments?he can be nervous and defensive around other dogs and doesn?t show much interest in play right now. He does have some dental wear and mild tartar, and he was noted to have nasal discharge that will need monitoring, but with proper care he can continue to feel better. What Chikito really needs is a safe, patient, and loving home where he can relax, feel secure again, and truly thrive. 🏡✨

dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Chikito Bonito greeted the runner at the front of the kennel with a wiggly body. He sniffed and licked the runner?s hand, and
leaned against the kennel door to solicit petting. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, but had to be coaxed to
walk. He was easy to collar, but was very hesitant to enter the catch pen. His body was tense and trembling, his eyes were
concerned, his ears were back, and his tail was tucked. He entered the yard, and greeted the other dogs with a tense body. He
sat in the corner of the yard with wide eyes and a trembling body. He did not interact with the other dogs, and hid behind the
red board when the dogs approached to greet him. He was fearful of the other dogs, and hid for his entire stay in the yard.
Chikito Bonito is defensive with the other dogs, has a low energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
