Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He required a go-slow approach when being collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He bypassed the other dogs and began to explore the yard. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. He remained tolerant of dogs approaching him and sniffing him, but he was timid and did not retum the greetings. After a short time, he began to grow more in confidence. He began to approach the other dogs and exchange soft greetings with them. He remained calm and social for the rest of his time in the yard. There were dogs playing during his time in the yard, but he did not engage in or entice any play. He did mount a couple of dogs dunng his time in the yard, but he was easily steered by the handlers. He only approached a handler one time and received affection. Dexter is social with the other dogs, but he displayed no play style at this time.

He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. The handler knelt and called to him, but he did not approach. The handler approached him slowly and picked up his leash. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch and lift all his paws with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch his tail with no reaction. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. He displayed no negative or conceming behavior toward the handler during the handling, but he is timid and requires a go-slow approach. He would do best in an adult only home or with older respectful kids.
