The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Heaven A5760760 (Intact) was at the front of the kennel with a relaxed demeanor and a high, fast tail wag upon arrival. As
she waited to be retrieved, her eyes began to harden, and her body tensed but settled after a verbal correction. As the runner
attempted to leash her, Heaven tried to dash out of the kennel, making placement slightly difficult. Once leashed, Heaven
rushed out of the kennel and led the way to the catch pen with a strong pull on the leash, bypassing her neighbors. Once
inside the catch pen, Heaven was collared and leashed without issue. Due to her history of animal aggression, a muzzle was
applied for the safety of the yard. Heaven was allowed into the yard, where she exchanged greetings with the dogs,
displaying a tense body posture. Her body began to gradually relax as she continued to sniff the other dogs. Following the
introduction, Heaven moved on to explore the environment, appearing uninterested in engaging in play with other dogs. She
occasionally approached the handlers to solicit petting. The handlers were required to quickly intervene after Heaven
charged after one of the dogs who was interacting with the handler, possibly exhibiting resource guarding behavior. For the
remainder of the session, Heaven remained under close monitoring due to her impulsive behavior. Once the session
concluded, Heaven was returned to her kennel without incident.

Heaven was at the front of the kennel with a neutral body, neutral gaze, open mouth, and a loose tail wag. Her body tensed,
her mouth closed, her tail stopped wagging, and she lunged toward the door while barking and snapping toward the
handler?s face. The handler offered a firm verbal correction, which Heaven ignored. The handler used the Pet Corrector,
which caused Heaven to stop barking and lunging, but did not make her step away from the front of the kennel. Her body
relaxed as the handler spoke softly while presenting the leash. She was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, pulled
strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. She roamed the yard for a few minutes before
approaching the handler with a relaxed body, soft eyes, an open pant, and a loose tail wag. She followed the handler around
the yard while jumping up and mouthing softly at the handler?s arms. She was easy to steer with a verbal correction. She
stood next to the handler with a relaxed body, and allowed the handler to pet her whole body. She continued to mouth at the
handler?s hands and arms, but was easy to steer. When the assessment was over, she followed the handler around the yard
while soliciting petting with a relaxed body. She was returned to her kennel with no issues.
