Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen and began seeking affection. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a male cattle dog mix and briefly tolerated him sniffing him, but he had concemed eyes and a tuckedtail. He then walked away and began to explore the yard. He was approached by a male Doberman and gave a show of teeth waming for space, with fully exposed teeth and gums. The male Doberman walked away. He was then approached by a female Pitbull and displayed the same behavior. She also walked away. He continued to roam the yard and mostly kept near the handlers, seeking reassurance. He was wary of dogs trailing him to sniff him as he roamed the yard. At one point, he was standing by the table and was approached by a male Doberman that sniffed him from behind. He looked back, froze for a couple of seconds, and then spun around giving an air snap toward him. The male Doberman backed away and then walked away. He maintained this defensive behavior for the rest of his time in the yard. He would approach the handlers often and seek affection. He appears under socialized with dogs. Due to this and his defensive behavior, he would do best as the only dog in the home.
