Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He entered the catch pen with soft body language. He allowed the handler to remove an old collar from him and place a new collar on him, with a clip leash attached. He remained with soft body language and displayed no negative behavior. He allowed the handler to pet him without issue. He required an animal ID band for during his time at the care center. The handler placed the ID band on him and as they were securing it, Shadow spun around growling and lunged up toward the handler, attempting to bite. The handler was able to take a step back and Shadow froze staring at the handler for a few seconds. A 2nd handler distracted him at the fence from inside the play yard and he walked away from the handler inside the pen. He walked to the middle of the pen, and the 2nd handler was able to enter the pen from behind him and pick up the leash that he was still wearing. The 2nd handler was able to hold this leash securely, while the 1st handler placed his slip leash over his head. While the ist handler was holding the slip leash securely, the 2nd handler was able to remove his collar and clip leash. He was then retumed to his kennel without further incident. Due to his prior bites and his sudden switch in behavior attempting to bite today, he wil be designated as rescue only with waiver and indemnity.
