A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Luna greeted the runner with a relaxed body, soft eyes, and a neutral tail wag. She was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, pulled strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. In the catch pen, her body was neutral, her eyes were neutral, and her tail was neutral. She entered the yard with a tense body, and defensively barred her teeth when the other dogs tried to greet her. She offered strong corrections while trying to back the dogs away. She roamed the yard, keeping to herself as much as possible. She allowed the handler to pet her, but occasionally curled her lips when the handler pet her for too long. She over-corrected a playful puppy. When a new dog entered the yard, Luna charged forward and bit the other dog on the scruff of the neck. She was easy to steer, but remained tense and over-corrective with the other dogs. Luna is defensive with the other dogs, has a low energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
