A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Macho was at the front of the kennel with a neutral body and a stoic demeanor. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, pulled strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. Due to his reported history of aggression, he was muzzled prior to entering the yard. He was tense and resistant to being muzzled, but the runner moved slowly and was able to safely muzzle him. In the catch pen, his body was neutral. He entered the yard and exchanged slightly tense greetings with the other dogs. He tried to remove the muzzle, and became very focused on the muzzle. The handler was able to break his focus after a few moments, and he began to roam the yard. He tried to mount the other dogs, and ignored their corrections. When one of the other males offered a firm correction, Macho finally backed away from the other dog. He resumed trying to remove the muzzle, and remained extremely focused. He tensed whenever the handler tried to pet him, but did not growl. He did not engage in play with the other dogs. When he was returned to his kennel, he refused to enter the kennel. He pulled away and bit the leash, but the runner was able to correct him with a verbal correction. Macho is selective with the other dogs, has a medium energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
