IMPULSE CONTROL Eval Comments: "The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She appeared loose with the dogs through the fence, but she did growl at one certain dog. That one dog was put to the side, just in case of a personal conflict Due to her reaction in the catch pen, the handler brought her into the yard and loosely held her leash, to mitigate any possible leash reactivity. There was a female cattle dog that playfully ran past her. She growled and lunged in her direction. The handler prevented her from pursuing her, to prevent any possible escalation. She was then approached by a social male border collie mix and again there was no tension on her leash from the handler. She immediately became tense with a high stiff tail, hackles raised and forward body posture. She froze for a second and then dashed toward his direction while growing. The male dog darted away to evade her. She then lunged again and tned to bite his back. The handler pulled her away on leash and she was unable to make contact with her bite. She was then removed from the yard at this time. Due to her unprovoked offensive behavior, she will need to be the only dog in the home.
