"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He was taken to a quiet area for the handling assessment. The handler knelt and began to verbally coax him. He slowly approached with soft body language. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction and then put his head closer to the handler's knee. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch and lift his front paws with no reaction. When the handler touched his back paws, he pulled them away. When the handler touched his tail, he sat down. He displayed no negative or conceing behavior toward the handler, but he is timid. After the handling, he continued to stay near the handler and receive seek affection. Due to doing best with a go-slow approach and some mild handling sensitivities, he would do best in an adult only home or with older respectful kids.

Due to a behavior descnbed while being captured as a stray, a resource guarding assessment was conducted as precaution.
He was on leash and the leash was secured to the fence as precaution. The handler placed a bowl of wet food mixed with kibble in front of him. He began to eat it, and the handler waited a few seconds for him to start enjoying the food. At this pomt, the handler used an assess-a-hand to conduct the resource guarding assessment. The handler placed the assess-a-hand on the edge of the bowl. He continued eating and displayed no negative reaction. The handler was able to do this a couple of times, including placing the assess-a-hand inside the bowl, with no display of any resource guarding. He allowed the handler to remove the bowl using the assess-a-hand and displayed no signs of guarding the bowl. The handler was able to remove the bowl away from him a couple of times, while he was eating, with no displays of resource guarding. The handler was also able to pet his head, back, touch his tail and touch his muzzle with the assess a-hand while he was eating, with no displays of resource guarding. He was retumed to his kennel without issue.
