A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." She required a go-slow approach when being collared by the runner and was giving side eye. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs and tolerated them sniffing her, but she was timid. After the dogs broke away, she began to roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs tralling her to sniff her. After some time, she appeared to relax more and exchange soft greetings with the calmer dogs. She was wary of the higher energy dogs or dogs that approached in fast marner. She would create space from these dogs, but she did not give any corrections or wamings for space. She remained social with the calmer dogs and created space from the higher energy dogs. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She began to approach one of the handlers in the yard, after some trust building and a go-slow approach. But she is very wary of faster movements and noises. She is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time. See handling assessment for further stipulations. The handler knelt and called to her, but she would not approach. The handler slowly approached her and picked up her leash. She allowed the handler to pet her head with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her teeth with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her ears with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch all her paws with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch her tail with no reaction. Although she allowed all areas to be handled, she remained fearfully frozen with wide eyes. She displayed no negative behaviortoward the handler, but she is timid and is extremely nervous of movements. She was retumed to her kennel without issue. She is very timid and needs a go-slow approach. She will need confidence building and is wary of faster movements and noises. She will need people to go at her pace and give her time to acclimate and build trust. Due to these aspects mentioned and her behavior upon intake, she would do best in an adult only home.
