A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She became barrier reactive toward the dogs through the fence, barking and growing at them. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by a female shepherd and exchanged a timid greeting with her. She was then approached by a male shepherd and tolerated him sniffing her, but she was timid. She then began to roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She was wary of higher energy dogs or dogs lingenng near her face and would become tense. After some time, she appeared to relax a lot more around the other dogs and began to exchange soft greetings with them. She remained social with the other dogs for the rest of her time in the yard, but she appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. She is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog.
