Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a male shepherd and immediately gave a show of teeth and an air snap waming. He then began to roam the yard to explore. He would show teeth with fully exposed gums and give multiple consecutive rapid air snaps to any dog that approached near him. He would even show teeth with fully exposed gums to dogs that were over 12 feet away from him. He maintained this overly defensive behavior with all the dogs for the rest of his time in the yard, regardless of their approach or energy level. He appears very under socialized with dogs. Due to his overly defensive behavior, he would likely do best as the only dog in the home.
