A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs and tolerated them sniffing her, but she was timid. After the dogs broke away, she began to roam the yard calmly and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She offered an appropriate lip curl waming for space to a male shepherd that lingered in her face. After some time, she appeared to relax more and began to exchange soft greetings with other dogs that approached her. She remained calm and social for the rest of her time in the yard, but she appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs. She would create her own space away from the higher energy dogs. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. She is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog.
