Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen, but she was very timid. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by a female shepherd and exchanged a timid greeting with her. She was then approached by a male husky and exchanged a timid greeting with him. She began to roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She began to approach and exchange soft greetings with the calm dogs. She was approached by a female shepherdin a playful manner. She was wary of this, gave a show of teeth waning for space, defensively barked and then darted off to create her own space. The female shepherd re approached her and lingered near her face. She gave a show ofteeth warning for space and again moved away. She remained more comfortable and social around the very calm dogs.
She would briefly approach the handlers in the yard, but she did not seek full engagement with them. She would do best with a very calm dog that will respect her space and boundaries. See handling assessment for further stipulations.

She was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. The handler knelt and called to her, but she would not approach. The handler slowly approached her and picked up her leash. She allowed the handler to pet her head with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her teeth with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her ears with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch all her paws with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch her tail with no reaction. Although she allowed all areas to be handled, she remained fearfully frozen. She displayed no negative behavior toward the handler, but she is very timid. She was retumed to her kennel without issue. She is very timid and needs a go-slow approach. She will need confidence building and is wary of faster movements. She will need people to go at her pace and give her time to acclimate and build trust. Due to these aspects mentioned and her behavior upon intake, she would do best in an adult only home.
