- "The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamlar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs. She had concemed eyes and darted away from them with a tucked tail. She then began to roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She appeared to begin to relax more and exchanged some soft greetings with the calmer dogs that approached her. Amale husky offered her a play bow and playfully barked, trying to entice play. She appeared wary of this and jumped back to created space. She did better around the calm dogs and remained wary of the higher energy dogs in the yard. She would approach the handler in the yard and seek affection. She would do best with a calm dog that will respect her space and boundanes. After play group was done, she was left as the last dog in the yard to conduct a resource guarding assessment. She sought affection from the handler in the yard, while the second handler was fetching her food. See resource guarding assessment for further stipulations.

Due to an incident in the previous home that resulted in a bite, a resource guarding assessment was conducted, to determine if she had any resource guarding behavior. She was on leash and the leash was secured to the play yard fence as precaution.
The handler placed a bowl of wet food mixed with kibble in front of her. She began to eat it, and the handler waited a few seconds for her to start enjoying the food. At this point, the handler used an assess-a-hand to conduct the resource guarding assessment. The handler placed the assess-a-hand on the edge of the bowl. She continued eating, began to eat faster and push her face deeper into the bowl. She allowed the handler to pet her with the assess-a-hand while she was easting, but she was tense. When the assess-a-hand touched the inside of the bowl, she began to rapidly eat, gulping food down as fast as she could and then began to growl. When the handler tried to move the bowl away using the assess-a-hand, she gave a nip toward the hand. As the handler tried to slide the bowl away from her and remove it using the asses-a-hand, she began to push her face into the bowl, growling and trying to prevent it being taken away. When the handler was eventually able to slide the bowl away, she lunged, bit the assess-a-hand, held it, and shook it while growling. She held the bite and shook for a couple of seconds before releasing the assess-a-hand. The food bowl was removed from the yard, and the assess-a-hand was put away. Ahandler unclipped her leash from the fence and she was walked back to her kennel without issue. Due to her showing no aggression toward the handlers, except during the food portion of the assessment, the handler walked her into the kennel. As the handler reached for the leash, she spun around without waming and bit his hand, puncturing the skin. Due
