\"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dogs behavior in an Animal Care Center may difter significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\"
He was barrier reactive at the kennel gate, growling and barking at the handler. When the handler opened the kennel gate, he had soft body language and was easy to loop leash. The handling assessment was conducted inside the kennel due to him having URI. The handler knelt and he approached, put his front paws on the handler's leg and began seeking affection. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch all his paws with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch his tail with no reaction. He displayed no negative or conceming behavior toward the handler. After the
handling, he continued to seek affection.
