He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen, but he was very timid. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a male husky and became very tense with a high stiff tail and hackles raised. A handler broke his focus using a spray bottle and he began to roam the yard to explore. He exchanged a soft greeting with a female Pitbull. She offered him a play bow, and they engaged in gentle/dainty play. He remained relaxed and social with the female dogs, but he continued to display tense and challenging body language toward the male dogs. He would not approach the handlers in the yard and would keep his distance. Anew male Corso entered the yard and Charcoal approached him. He immediately stood in front of him with a tense forward body posture, high stiff curved tail and hackles raised. He froze like this and the began to growl and had hard eyes. A handler was able to quickly step on his leash, as he lunged forward toward the other dog. This prevented him from making contact and the handler then picked up his leash and removed him from the yard. Due to remaining social around the female dogs and his challenging behavior toward male dogs he will be designated as female dogs only required. See handling assessment for further stipulations.

He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. The handler knelt and called to him, but he did not approach. He The handler slowly approached him and picked up his leash. He allowed the handler to pet his head, but he had wide eves. He allowed the handler to check his ears, but he had wide eves. When the handler tried to check his teeth, he would tum his head away. When the handler touched any of his paws, he would pull them away. When the handler touched his tail, he tucked it under. He is fearful and needs a very go-slow approach. He will need someone to go at his pace and trust building. He was retumed to is kennel without issue. Due to his need for a go-slow approach and handing sensitivities, he would do best in an adult only home.
