Cash was calm and easy to handle during his shelter behavior assessment. He was easy to leash, walked out of his kennel independently, tolerated handling, and showed no signs of resource guarding during food or toy testing. He remained neutral throughout the evaluation and returned to his kennel without incident.
However, Cash has a documented bite history and known concerns regarding food and resource guarding in the home environment. According to the reporting party, Cash has displayed food aggression and allegedly attacked while eating when a person was nearby. The owner also reported that Cash bit her husband on two occasions within the past several months and stated that previous caretakers were aware of a history of aggressive behavior spanning several years.
As with many dogs, behavior observed in the shelter may differ from behavior exhibited in a home setting. Cash would benefit from placement with an experienced rescue capable of providing a thorough behavioral evaluation, structured management, and any necessary training or behavior modification.
Cash is seeking a rescue partner with the appropriate waiver & indemnity insurance willing to give him the opportunity for further assessment and support outside of the shelter environment.

HANDLING
DOWNEY
A5779160
The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Cash A5779160 (Intact) was at the front of the kennel with a calm demeanor when the handler arrived and allowed himself
to be leashed with ease. He proceeded to exit the kennel on his own and made his way to the yard, where he was allowed to
decompress prior to the assessment. Cash flinched when the handler made initial contact, requiring a gentle touch to examine
his ears, mouth, abdomen, tail nub, and legs, while remaining tolerant and observant throughout the session. He exhibited a
slightly tense posture, with a neutral gaze, a closed mouth, and a natural ear set. Once the session concluded, he remained in
the yard to begin the resource guarding assessment.

Cash A5779160 (Intact) was presented with a bowl of food, appearing uninterested as he briefly sniffed it before shifting his
focus to the environment. He was unbothered by the Assess-a-Hand making contact with the bowl, as it moved it away from
him. The handler then introduced a toy, and Cash curiously leaned forward to sniff it before lightly chewing it without
further engagement. Cash maintained a neutral body posture overall throughout the session, with no notable change in
demeanor. Once the session concluded, Cash was returned to his kennel without incident.
