Eval Comments: The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out' or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
He had soft eyes and an open mouth pant as the runner easily clasped the collar around his neck. He did not greet any dogs through the fence. He calmly entered the yard and spent the first few minutes exploring the perimeter, keeping to himself.
Eventually a few calm dogs came up to greet him and he retumed soft greetings, tolerating them lingering near his face and sniffing his body. He resumed exploring and did not seek any dogs out. He was tolerant of others approaching and would remain loose while greeting them. He saw a handler and approached her for affection andreassurance. He shadowed her for several minutes. As time passed, he started relaxing and approaching the other dogs. He was much looser with soft eyes and a neutral tail wag while greeting them. He was enticed for play by a male mastiff but did not appear interested in play. He needs further socialization and confidence building. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
