Euthanasia Reason - Reason for euthanasia: Petie has displayed persistent and escalating behavioral concerns throughout his shelter stay that present a significant safety risk to staff and handlers. At intake, he was unable to be safely handled, exhibiting growling, snapping, lunging, and biting at handling equipment, requiring the use of an ACD. Throughout his stay, Petie repeatedly became fixated on water and kennel cleaning procedures, lunging and snapping at water and preventing staff from safely cleaning his kennel despite repeated attempts at management. In playgroups, he later began displaying poor impulse control, targeting handlers' tools during dog altercations and requiring placement into muzzle work. Although Petie had periods of appropriate social behavior, his unpredictable aggression, fixation behaviors, and increasing management needs persisted despite time, enrichment, and behavior modification efforts. Due to the ongoing safety concerns and poor prognosis for safe placement, humane euthanasia is recommended.
