Rascal is a timid, handling-sensitive dog who is overwhelmed by the shelter environment. He is hesitant with new people, requires gentle handling, and remains tense during interactions despite allowing touch. In playgroup, he preferred to avoid other dogs, coexisting only if they respected his space and moving away from dogs that approached him. Due to his handling sensitivity and stress level, Rascal is Rescue Only and is recommended as the only dog in the home. He would benefit from a patient, experienced rescue that can provide a calm environment, decompression, and positive reinforcement to help build his confidence.

Ruffles A5786486 was moved to the side yard to proceed with his handling assessment. He was nervous of the handler,
when she got close to him, his body would slightly tense up. She asked the second handler to hold his leash to safely pet him.
He allowed the petting everywhere, but he remained tense the entire time, his eyes were focused and his pupils were dilated,
his mouth was closed and his tail was slightly high. When the handler stopped petting him, he began jumping on her (his
body was very slightly tense), the handler corrected him, he ignored her verbal correction, but he got off her when she
sprayed him with the spray bottle. Rescue only for handling sensitivity.

Rascal A5785498 (altered) greeted the runner with a timid demeanor, he sniffed the runner but retreated to the back of the
kennel when the runner attempted to leash him. The runner coaxed him, he entered his kennel to leash him. He placed the
leash on him, Rascal wouldn't walk out, the runner used gentle leash guidance and coaxing to get him to walk. He walked
nervously through the kennels. In the catch pen when he was introduced to the dogs his body was low, his eyes were
concerned, his mouth was closed and his ears were slightly back. He was nervous to be collared and leashed but tolerant. He
entered the yard and was nervous during his greetings with the dogs. He walked away, he kept to himself and roamed
quietly. He was moved to the gentle/dainty yard. He was able to co-exist with the dogs if they left him alone. He walked
away anytime the dogs overly hovered around him. Overall, Rascal was tolerant of the dogs, but he did not have a play style
at this time. See handling assessment.
