Eval Comments: The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out' or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
He was wary of the runner and pancaked on the ground with concemed eyes, tolerating the collar being clasped around his neck. He was not interested in greeting any dogs through the fence. He had to be canied into the yard. Once in, he was insecure and lacked confidence as the other dogs came up to him. He tumed his head away to avoid any direct greeting but tolerated them sniffing his body. When they tried to sniff or lick his face, he would lip curl or lightly growl. He did over comect a female pit bull who came up to him obnoxiously and lingered near his face. He snapped to wam her and then took several steps while snapping after she retreated away from him. The handlers broke his focus verbally. He was initially timid with the handlers as well. It took lots of coaxing and trust building for him to approach. Once he did, he was loose and enjoyed having his back and headrubbed. He was easily canied by a handler without a rope muzzle. Once in his amns, he was loose and relaxed with an open mouth pant, displaying no negative behavior. He lacks socialization and needs confidence building.
