EVALUATION COMMENTS:
'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Garth greeted the runner nicely and was easy to leash/remove from the kennel. While walking through the kennels Garth pulled/lunged/fence fought with the dogs along the way and was difficult to steer. Once in the catch pen Garth again became reactive at the barrier and was collared/leashed/muzzled without incident. Garth was then guided into the play yard. Garth displayed a tense body, closed mouth, ears back, high tail, and a stern gaze. Garth immediately approached/challenged the nearest dog and was able to be steered. When not focused on the dog's garth wrestled/scratched at the muzzle vigorously. Garth was shifted to the adjacent yard and his muzzle was removed. Garth was then leash guided into the yard and reintroduced to the yard. Garth became tense and as he approached lunged at the nearest dog. The handler was able to use the leash to keep Garth at bay. He was then removed from the yard and returned to the alone time yard. Garth appeared more at ease and solicited petting from the handler with a loose/wiggly demeanor. Garth became reactive at the barrier when dogs approached. Garth was difficult to steer and would bite/pull at the fencing when dogs were nearby. Garth was returned to his kennel with some difficulty as he was reactive pulling/lunging/fence fighting along the way. Garth could benefit from impulse control/basic manners training. Garth is recommended to be made available to rescue only medium energy level no other dogs required.
