EVALUATION COMMENTS:
The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Sabrina A5801002 (Intact) approached and sat next to the handler, allowing handling of her ears, mouth, abdomen, tail, and legs without issue. She maintained a soft demeanor, seeking affection throughout the process. Once the session concluded, Sabrina was allowed to remain in the yard before being returned to her kennel. After entering her kennel, she became reactive, barking, flashing her teeth, and attempting to bite the handler's hand when it was placed on the barrier. Due to Sabrina's barrier reactivity, a previous bite incident, and prey-like behavior toward a small dog, BET recommends rescue adoption at this time.
