EVALUATION COMMENTS:
The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. She had a loose, puppy-like demeanor and was seeking affection from the runner in the catch pen. When the runner presented the collar, she pancaked on the ground appearing to be wary of it. She tolerated it being clasped around her neck, relaxing instantly once it was clasped and resumed seeking affection. She entered the yard and ran over to handler to seek affection, lightly jumping on his side. She was not interested in greeting any dogs and spent the next few moments exploring by herself. Eventually a few dogs came up to greet her. She was tolerant but not comfortable of their presence, briefly sniffing in return before walking away. She then walked up to a young, female shepherd mix. The shepherd mix growled and air snapped at her as Jeannie lingered near her muzzle. Jeannie respected the warning and backed away. As time passed, Jeannie relaxed and began exchanging much looser greetings. She was enticed for play by a male pit bull, tapping her feet in return and prancing once, but full play did not erupt. She spent several minutes calmly roaming the yard, interacting with other calm dogs. She was not comfortable with a female Jindo mix who came in energetically. Jeannie was very tense and raised her hackles as the Jindo obnoxiously sniffed her body. Jeannie has a calm demeanor and appears to be interested in play in certain circumstances. She could benefit from further socialization. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
