KHOA for highly defensive behavior with other dogs and handling sensitivity.
Low energy level. ADULTS ONLY REQUIRED NO OTHER DOGS REQUIRED. During playgroup assessment the runner was able to get her attention and calm her down. Her body was slightly tense, her eyes were neutral, her mouth was closed, and her rear end was wiggly. She was easy to leash and remove from the kennel and pulled slightly on leash while bypassing the other kennels. She was wary of being collared, but the runner moved slowly and was able to collar her with no issues. She allowed the runner to pet her and then jumped on the runner softly to solicit more petting. She was hesitant to enter the catch pen and required gentle pressure on the leash to enter. In the catch pen, her body was neutral, her eyes were neutral, and she panted heavily. She bared her teeth at the other dogs when they approached the fence. She entered the yard and immediately jumped on the handler to solicit petting. She did not greet the other dogs and tried to keep her distance from them. When approached, she barked, snarled, and lunged forward to snap at the other dogs. She roamed the yard with a tense body, wide eyes, and a heavy pant, but remained defensive with the other dogs. She was over-corrective, which resulted in an altercation with another dog. She engaged in the altercation for a few seconds before she panicked and fled across the yard. The other dog pursued her, jumped on top of her, and bit her back. The handlers were able to restrain both dogs, and the other dog was removed from the yard. Antoinette ran to the far side of the yard where she hid in the corner. She remained highly defensive with the other dogs and was eventually moved to the side yard with a few calm dogs. She kept her distance from the other dogs but remained defensive when approached. Antoinette is highly defensive with the other dogs, has a low energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
During handling assessment Antoinette was moved to the side yard and given a few moments to decompress before the handler entered the yard. She stood next to the handler with a neutral body, soft eyes, an open pant, and a soft wag. She jumped on the handler to solicit petting, and allowed the handler to pet her head, neck, and back with no issues. As the assessment progressed, her body tensed slightly. She closed her mouth and shifted her eyes nervously. She allowed the handler to pet her sides and abdomen and check her ears and teeth with ease. She sat down when the handler touched her tail and tensed further when the handler touched her feet. However, she offered her paw when the handler held her hand out. She allowed the handler to touch both front feet, but only if she offered her paw first. Otherwise, her body tensed, her mouth closed, and she side-eyed the handler. When the assessment was over, she followed the handler around the yard. She leaned against the handler to solicit petting while panting softly.
