Eval Comments: The behaviors described to day reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He was standing at the kennel gate growling and barking. The runner knelt and began to verbally reassure him, but he began to lunge and try to bite at the runner through the gate. He began throwing his body against the kennel gate and displaying offensive behavior. When the runner would try to open the kennel gate, he would not retreat from the gate or give space. The runner was not comfortable to fully open the gate or try to leash him, due to his offensive behavior in the kennel. He will be designated as rescue only at this time and his behavior will be re-assessed for improvement.
