Eval Comments: The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. She walked to the play yard with no pull on the leash. She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by a female Pitbull and exchanged a soft greeting with her. She was then approached by a male Pitbull and exchanged a soft greeting with him. He offered her a play bow, but she declined his invitation to play and walked away. She beganto roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She continued to roam the yard and exchange soft greetings with other dogs. She remained calm and social for the rest of her time in the yard. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not join in or try to entice any play. She would approach the handlers often and seek affection. Susie is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog. Due to prior incidents at the care center with small dogs, she will be designated as no small dogs required.
