Bastian ? Rescue Only | Bite Disclosure | KHOA Required 🐾
Bastian is a fearful dog struggling in the shelter environment. He avoids interaction in the kennel and initially growled when approached but allowed leashing. He displayed handling sensitivity, flailing and snapping when picked up, but tolerated touch once settled outside. He showed no interest in another energetic dog and preferred calm space.
Two minor bites were reported in his previous home ? one to a child?s chin while being petted, and another to an adult?s foot while picking up the child.
Bastian requires Rescue Only placement with a Bite Disclosure and KHOA due to handling sensitivity. He needs a patient, experienced rescue willing to give him time to decompress and build trust. 💙

HANDLING

?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
While doing rounds, he was at the back of the kennel and did not approach. I closed him outside and entered the kennel, he
backed away and started to growl. Able to leash without issue and when I went to pick up he would whip around and try to
snap. I used a towel to pick up and carry to the small yard. I let him explore and eventually "reeled" him in to perform
handling "exam". I went slow and was able to handle/pet/touch without issue. He was tolerant but did not seek engagement. I
brought in a social small dog and he avoided interaction (other dog was too much energy for him).
I removed the other dog, I knelt down and he did come up and I carried him back to the kennel without issue.
Ok for Rescue Only with a Bite Disclosure and KHOA for handling sensitivity
