🐾 Meet Bear! 🐶 Bear was surrendered because his owner didn?t have enough time to care for him properly. He?s a bit anxious and can show occasional low growls with a tense body, but with patience and love, he warms up and even lets you pet him. ❤️ Bear needs a special home that understands his needs, so he?s only available for rescue adoption. If you?re ready to give Bear the gentle care he deserves, he?ll be a loyal friend for life! 🐕

?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Bear was at the rear of the kennel with a tense demeanor, high stiff tail, low growl, and tense gaze. Bear did not approach
and was leashed using a slow approach with some difficulty. Once leashed Bear exited the kennel on his own and walked
beside the runner with no pull on the leash. Once in the catch pen Bear was collared and leashed using a slow approach.
Bear appeared tense and was back tied for safety during the process. Bear greeted the dogs at the barrier with a neutral
demeanor and was allowed into the play yard. Bear displayed a neutral body, low tail, closed mouth, natural ear set, and soft
eyes. Bear allowed the dogs to sniff him and started to reciprocate greetings appearing more at ease. One of the dogs
attempted to play with Bear and he appeared interested but did not participate. Bear moved on and continued to explore the
yard and socialize further. Bear appeared much more at ease displaying a relaxed demeanor. Bear approached the handlers
and slowly started to seek engagement. Bear allowed head petting and started to climb the table by the handlers seeking
further engagement. He allowed himself to be leash guided off of the table but would quickly climb back up. Bear spent the
remainder of the play session around the handlers and allowing head petting. Bear maintained a relaxed demeanor and was
able to co-exist displaying no playstyle. See additional assessment for placement recommendations.

Bear was in the play yard prior to the assessment and was given time to decompress. Bear displayed a relaxed body, open
mouth pant, natural ear set, a relaxed tail wag, and soft eyes. The handler called Bear over to them and he approached and
allowed head petting. Bear was able to perform ?sit? and ?shake? but on once instance he gave a low growl when giving a
?shake.? The handler back tied Bear for safety prior to the assessment. The handler was able to examine Bears ears, mouth,
abdomen, back, tail, and lower extremities. When palpating Bears lower extremities, he would side eye and growl at the
handler but didn?t escalate. Bear appeared very uncomfortable with his lower extremities being examined. Bear was leashed
and returned to his kennel without issue. Bear is recommended to be made available to rescue only medium energy level
calm dogs recommended.
