\"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\"
She walked to the play yard with no pull on the leash. She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by a male Labrador and exchanged a soft greeting with him. When he lingered near her rear end, she became tense with hackles raised and looked back at him. Ahandler steered him away for her, to give her space. She was then approached by a female husky and exchanged a soft greeting with her. She began to calmly roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She began to approach some of the calm dog and exchange soft greetings with them. She was approached by a male Labra dor puppy that began to playfully push her with his body and paw at her to entice play. She remained tolerant of this and offered no corrections, but she declined his invitations to play. She continued to calmly roam the yard and remained social with the other dogs. She appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs and was not comfortable with dogs that lingered near her rear end too long. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. Tina is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time. She would do best with a calm dog that would respect her boundaries.

She was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. She was given a moment to acclimate to her surroundings. The handler knelt and called to her. She approached the handler with soft body language. She began to lean against the handler and seek affection. She allowed the handler to pet her head with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her teeth with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her ears with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch and lift her front paws with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch her tail with no reaction. When the handler lifted her rear paws, she looked back with concemed eyes. She displayed no negative or conceming behavior toward the handler dunng the handling. After the handing she put her paws on the handler's knee, continued to seek affection, and began to lick their face. She was retumed to her kennel without issue.
