\"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\"
He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a female Pitbull. He became tense, had raised hackles and began to give a growl waming. She walked away and gave him space. He was approached by a male shepherd. He immediately had a forward body posture, hackles raised, high curved tail and began to growl. A handler broke his focus using a spray bottle. He then began to roam the yard to explore. He continued to growl and lip curl at all dogs that approached near him. After a while, he appeared to relax, but only around the female dogs. He began to exchange soft greetings with them and even engaged in some gentle dainty play. He remained playful and social with all the female dogs for the rest of his time in the yard. He continued to approach and display challenging behavior toward male dogs and required constant intervention to break his focus. He would approach the handlers often and seek affection. Due to his challenging behavior toward the male dogs, he will be designated as female dogs only required.
