Areith came to us as a stray and has had a tough start in life. She?s a cautious girl who finds it hard to trust new people and prefers to keep her distance from other dogs. 🐶💔 Because of her handling sensitivity, she is only available for rescue adoption with a KHOA disclosure form. Areith needs a calm, patient home (or rescue) willing to give her the time and understanding she deserves to learn that people can be kind. ❤️ With patience and compassion, Areith has the potential to blossom into a loyal companion. 🌸

dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Areith A5733255 (Intact) was at the front of the kennel when the runner arrived, exhibiting a tense body posture with her
hackles raised. Areith lunged forward, barking and growling, but retreated to the rear when the runner tried coaxing her. She
continued to respond defensively from a distance, reluctant to approach. The runner was required to fully step into the
kennel in order to leash her, causing Areith to back into a corner, repeatedly dodging the leash. After multiple attempts,
Areith was leashed and exited the kennel on her own. She proceeded to walk ahead, pulling strongly away from the runner as
she passed by the other kennels. Inside the catch pen, the collar and leash were cautiously placed as she appeared nervous
throughout the process. Areith was allowed into the yard and briefly greeted the dogs with a tense posture before walking
away. She chose to isolate herself from everyone else, uninterested in the dogs. She barked defensively to signal for space
when she noticed one of the handlers approaching. The runner tried to win her trust with some coaxing, to no avail.
Eventually, she took the initiative to explore the environment, sniffing the dogs she encountered along the way. For the rest
of the session, Areith kept to herself, tolerating the dogs from a distance. Once the session concluded, she was moved to the
side yard to begin her handling assessment. Areith could benefit from continued socialization in a yard with calm dogs,
where she can interact at her own comfort level and gradually develop her social skills.

Areith A5733255 (Intact) was allowed to decompress alone in the yard prior to the assessment. The handler was unable to
safely conduct an evaluation. Areith stood with a tense body posture, a tucked tail, ears pinned back, a closed mouth with
constant lip licking, observing the handler with a concerned gaze. An Assess-a-hand tool was used as a precaution. Fast
movements and loud noises caused Areith to startle, so the handler slowly presented the tool. She began to pull away,
flashing her teeth in response. As the tool gently touched her head, she responded by lightly biting it. She was allowed to
settle before the handler attempted again. As the handler persisted, Areith became more defensive, barking and biting the
tool with more force, making it unsafe to proceed. To prevent further stress on Areith, the session concluded, and she was
returned to her kennel without incident. Due to her highly defensive behavior and lack of socialization, Areith is not
available for public adoption.

Areith was at the rear of the kennel with a tense body, tucked tail, ears back, closed mouth, concerned gaze. The runner
called to her and Areith barked defensively at her scanning for an exit. With further coaxing from the runner Aerith scurried
to the other end of the kennel run. The runner met her again and attempted to engage with Aerith but she again scurried away
to the inside of the kennel run. The runner attempted to close the divider to keep her on one side, but the divider mechanism
appears to be broken. Due to the divider/equipment malfunction Aerith could not be pulled for an assessment. Placement
pending assessment.
