Description
He was resistant to walking on leash and required lots of coaxing to exit the kennel. He walked a short distance with a low body. He pancaked in the hallway and would no longer walk. The runner placed a loop muzzle on him and carried him to the catch pen. As the runner entered the pen, Hunter began to flail and whip his muzzle towards the runner's arm. The runner felt teeth contact his skin as Hunter tried to bite him out of fear. The runner placed him on the ground and Hunter scooted away. The runner spent several minutes building trust while kneeling next to him. Hunter remained wary while avoiding eye contact but tolerated the collar being clasped around his neck. He was coaxed into the yard. A female pit bull came up slowly. Hunter lightly flinched initially but then exchanged a calm greeting with her. He appeared to relax quickly and was dogs social as he began approaching the other dogs. He exchanged good greetings with each of them. He then enticed a male lab for play, tapping his feet and play bowing. Full play did not erupt. He spent the next few minutes calmly roaming the yard. He was fearful of the handlers and would not approach them despite several attempts made by them. He then engaged in some chase play with the female pit bull. He enjoyed chasing but was not interested in any physical play. He would stop with any contact made and then resume chasing soon after. He remained social with the other dogs but would not approach any handler while in the yard. Due to his handling sensitivity with the runner and during his handling assessment, he is designated as RESCUE ONLY, CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
He was wary of the handler as he walked with a low body and concerned eyes. He kept to the end of leash and would not approach the handler. He flinched significantly as the handler slowly extended his hand towards him. The handler spent a few moments trust building and reassuring him. Hunter eventually relaxed slightly, tolerating the handler looking into his ears and rubbing his back. He flinched away from the handler with wide eyes as the handler's hand neared his muzzle. He was very uncomfortable with any of his front paws being touched and flinched while pulling them away very quickly. He was also uncomfortable with his rear paws being touched. As the handler touched his paw, Hunter spun his head around and snapped at his hand. The handling assessment was concluded at this time. He walked back to his kennel, and the leash was removed without issue. Due to his handling sensitivity in the care center, he is designated as RESCUE ONLY, CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
