The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.

He had a loose body and neutral tail wag as the runner clasped the collar around his neck easily. He entered the yard with a loose body and soft eyes, approaching several dogs and exchanging good greetings with all. He spent the next few minutes roaming the yard with several dogs as he sniffed the area. A male Malinois came up to him playfully, pawing at his side. Rusty remained loose with the contact, declining play and walked away. He spent several minutes calmly roaming with a pack of dogs, remaining social and exchanging good greetings. He approached the handlers on several occasions to solicit affection with a loose body and soft eyes. He resumed roaming around with a group of dogs and appeared playful but never engaged in full play. He would just run around the yard with them at a medium pace but never engaged any of them to play directly. He did try to mount the male Malinois a few times and was also mounted by the Malinois. He had no negative reaction and appeared to tolerate the contact. He remained social and friendly for the rest of his time in the yard.
