?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Koda greeted the runner nicely and was easy to leash and remove from the kennel. Koda walked ahead of the runner with a
strong pull on the leash bypassing the dogs along the way. Once in the catch pen Koda was collared and leashed without
incident. He greeted the dogs at the barrier nicely and was allowed into the play yard. Koda displayed a relaxed body, open
mouth pant, natural ear set, relaxed tail with a soft wag, and soft eyes. Koda exchanged greetings nicely then moved on and
explored the yard. He sniffed and marked various locations and continued to socialize as he explored. Koda approached the
handler?s seeking engagement from them. He solicited petting and spent more time with the handlers sitting with them and
observing the yard. As Koda was roaming the yard a few dogs gave him play bows and coaxed him to play. After some
coaxing he went into a play bow and joined the group. Koda is vocal when playing, often grunting/grumbling and barking at
the dogs as he chases them. His play remained appropriate but sounded ?rough.? One of the dogs appeared to enjoy being
caught when playing chase and allowed Koda to gnaw his limbs and nip his rear tolerating Koda?s roughhouse play . Koda
returned to the handlers for petting after playing for some time. Koda returned to play when they approached him again and
gave play bows. Koda maintained a social and playful demeanor with a rough/rowdy play style. Koda is ok for public
adoption medium energy level large dogs ok.
