?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Alba greeted the runner with a neutral body and a timid demeanor. She was wary of the leash, but the runner moved slowly
and was able to leash her with ease. She required gentle pressure in the leash to exit the kennel, pulled lightly on leash while
bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar when the runner moved slowly. In the catch pen, her body was tense, her
eyes were concerned, her mouth was closed, and her tail was low. She entered the yard with a tense body and a timid
demeanor, and did not greet the other dogs. She hid in the corner of the yard, and occasionally snapped at the other dogs in a
defensive manner. She allowed the handler to pet her, but did not solicit petting. She eventually began to roam the yard with
a timid demeanor, but did not interact with the other dogs. Alba is defensive with the other dogs, has a low energy level, and
does not have a playstyle at this time.
