?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Lufy greeted the handler nicely at the barrier and was easy to leash and remove from the kennel. Lufy was taken to the play
yard and was given time to decompress prior to the assessment. Lufy displayed a relaxed body, open mouth pant, natural ear
set, relaxed tail wag, and soft eyes. Lufy approached the handler and appeared to allow petting. After a few moments Lufy
became tense/growled/flashed teeth. When the handler attempted to pet her back Lufy briefly allowed it then growled and
whipped around snapped/barked at the handler. They attempted to pet/touch other parts on Lufy but could only be briefly
touched before Lufy snapped/growled at the handler. Lufy appears to be highly touch sensitive and was returned to his
kennel without incident. Lufy is recommended to be made available to rescue only (+KHOA handling sensitivity) low energy
level.
